“Welcome to Fight Club!” A movie star of the first order who is known for his high profile relationships, romances and marriages to beautiful actresses like Gwyneth Paltrow and Friends star Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt took himself off the market in 2005 when he met the Oscar-winning silver screen siren Angelina Jolie on the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Dubbed “Brangelina” and ranked as the most influential couple on the red carpet, Pitt and Jolie grabbed hundreds of headlines worldwide before finally making it down the aisle in August 2014 with their six children in tow. In September 2016, the famed couple shocked the world as Jolie filed for divorce and ended their supposed Hollywood fairytale.
Long before meeting Jolie, Pitt first gained recognition as a cowboy hitchhiker in Thelma & Louise in 1991 before landing his first leading role in A River Runs Through It in 1992. Continuing to climb the ranks of Hollywood, the Missouri native proved his incredible talent with award-winning performances in 12 Monkeys, Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. On top of that, he’s been named the sexiest man alive on numerous occasions and is sitting fairly high on the Hollywood pay scale with a net worth of $240 million and plenty of mansions to prove it!
After his initial success in Legends of the Fall, the young Pitt purchased a 5,760 square foot home in Los Feliz, California for $1.7 million. With five bedrooms and five bathrooms, Pitt had plenty of room as Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor but that didn’t stop him from continuing to build his real estate portfolio. He purchased a 2,454 square foot home with one bedroom and two bath for $380,000 in 1996 and, two years later, purchased another similar home. A decade later and long divorced from Aniston, he was in the midst of settling in with Jolie when he purchased an adjacent estate for $1.287 million and, in 2009, bought a 3,232 square foot home to complete his massive Los Angeles estate. Of course, when you’re Hollywood’s most powerful couple, you can’t stop with only Los Angeles real estate, now can you?
In 2009, Pitt and Jolie wanted a break from Hollywood and purchased an 1830s mansion in New Orleans for $3.5 million after Pitt fell in love with the area while filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. With his Make It Right foundation dedicated to rebuilding homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Pitt knew the house would be perfect as the first of many southern getaways for his family.
Located in the historic French Quarter, the main house measure 7,435 square feet with six bedrooms, four full bath and a two-story guest house with a single bedroom. Among the many celebrity stories associated with the property include Pitt throwing a beer over to his neighbor Matthew McConaughey and how Jonah Hill crashed with the couple when he was filming 21 Jump Street in The Big Easy. According to Hill, fans waiting outside the home hoping for a glimpse of Pitt were always disappointed when they realized it was him instead of the World War Z heartthrob.
By all accounts, the stately mansion exudes southern charm with special details including venetian plaster walls, a spiral staircase, marble fireplaces and marble mantles. Boasting an in-home elevator that adds a hint of modernity and a two-car garage, the New Orleans home has a private backyard as well as a second story balcony that offers gorgeous views of The Big Easy and makes listening to the jazz-filled streets all the more enjoyable.
Last year, the couple snagged a second home in the French Quarter with five bedrooms and three full bath but put it back on the market months later for $6.5 million in order to find something with more privacy. With no potential buyers, the couple dropped the price to $5.6 million but have yet to accept an offer leading many to believe the gorgeous southern-French estate will be yet another point to argue in the couple’s impending divorce.
Moving beyond the Big Easy, the couple will also have to decide what to do with their 11.5-acre ranch in Santa Barbara’s posh Goleta, California neighborhood in addition to their getaway in the Big Apple—an apartment in Manhattan’s stunning Waldorf-Astoria Towers. While these properties are likely to stir up much debate, there’s no doubt that one property in particular will be at the forefront of the divorce—the couple’s French villa known as Chateau Miraval. Stretching across 1,200 acres, Pitt and Jolie first moved into the 35-room villa in 2008 and later purchased it outright for $60 million in 2012. Two years later, the Chateau became the venue for their highly anticipated nuptials.
As rumors continue to run wild that Pitt cheated on Jolie and that he has a wild temper, the 41-year-old Lara Croft: Tomb Raider star hasn’t wasted any time in moving out of their Los Angeles home. With Pitt still denying any claims, Jolie is living large in a 4,409 square foot seaside escape in Los Feliz, California where she, her attorneys and media team plan their next strategy. With a gourmet kitchen, home theater, fitness room, hot tub, heated pool, 24-hour security and private access to the beach, it’s safe to say that Jolie isn’t letting her heartbreak interfere with her comforts as she calls it quits with Hollywood’s newest eligible bachelor.
