Known as “The Rock” in the ring and as Dwayne Johnson on the silver screen, the Hayward, California native is living proof that you can have it all. A standout football star at the University of Miami where he led his team to victory at the 1991 National Championship, Johnson’s career on the field was tragically cut short when an injury took him out of the game and led to his replacement by future NFL great Warren Sapp. Turning his attention to the ring where he followed in his grandfather and father’s footsteps, Johnson trained alongside his father and, by 1996, was well on his way to making a name for himself in the WWE as a major figure in the Attitude Era of wrestling and the first third-generation wrestler to take the ring.
Partially retiring from the WWE in the new millennium, Johnson caught the acting bug and made his film debut in The Scorpion King in 2002, at which time he set the world record when he earned $5.5 million and became the highest paid actor in a first-time starring role. Setting the bar high for himself, he’s starred in dozens of films like Walking Tall, The Other Guys and the 2017 remake of Jumanji with his most notable role as Luke Hobbs in The Fast and the Furious franchise. As if earning a fortune in the ring wasn’t enough, the 6’5” tall wrestler is now ranked as one of the most influential people in the world and the highest paid actor with a current net worth of $256 million and climbing.
When it comes to a larger than life man, you would expect nothing less than a larger than life estate and Johnson’s home near Fort Lauderdale, Florida does not disappoint. Located in the stunning Landmark Ranch Estates in Southwest Ranches, the mansion is 13,700 square feet of opulence and perfection that was originally built as a spec home by a local contractor. Picking up the estate for $5.5 million, Johnson was quick to add his own unique touches to the property before settling in and calling it home.
Stretching across 2.5 acres with five bedrooms and a six-car garage, Johnson didn’t think twice about throwing in another $1 million for contractors to install a luxurious pool and build a state-of-the-art gym, sports facility and a separate guest house to ensure his home gym was up to his high standards. Of course, after earning over $64.5 million in 2015 alone and displacing former top-earning actors like Robert Downey, Jr., Jackie Chan and Harrison Ford from the top of the list, what’s another million dollars when it comes to sweating style?
All joking aside, during construction in 2014, one source told Jose Lambiet of Gossip Extra, “[Johnson] is very particular about where he works out. It’s going to be a great gym and guest house for his trainer.”
However, his ventures in real estate haven’t all been as glamorous. In 2013, Johnson first purchased an older home on Berkshire Court in the same neighborhood for $3.45 million. After realizing it wasn’t truly what he wanted in a Florida home, he sold the house at a huge loss for $3 million in April 2014. By then, he had already fallen in love with the stunning Mediterranean-inspired property located at 16715 Berkshire Court and knew that he had finally found a place to call home.
Offering a quiet country lifestyle with the convenience of the nearby bustling Fort Lauderdale, Johnson’s estate features laid-back ranch-style living with stunning views of Florida’s tropical elegance. Both chic and classy, the massive home still manages to emit a welcoming feel that boasts a strong sense of humility from the world’s highest paid actor, a feeling that is not entirely unexpected since Johnson makes no secret that he had only $7 to his name when he first entered the wrestling ring.
Aside from basic details that the home features an open floor plan, plenty of natural lighting, spacious rooms and wide corridors, little else is known about the interior of Johnson’s home. However, it’s almost certain that the Central Intelligence star has made sure to include many items and design elements that reflect his fondness for his hometown of Miami and his deep love of Florida culture.
As for the exterior, the one-story home incorporates a cement, concrete and stone façade that is dotted with spectacular arches that reflect the style of an authentic Mediterranean villa. With three garages flanking either side of the house, the circle drive permits easy access to the stunning front gated entrance as the strategic placement of palm trees, shrubbery and other landscaping add a measure of privacy and seclusion without detracting from its curbside appeal.
With certainly more than $7 in his pocket these days (and a net worth to prove it!), the former football star, professional wrestler and current Hollywood heartthrob has definitely hit the jackpot when it comes to living large. Sharing the block with his ex-wife and business partner Dany Garcia as well as professional football stars Devin Hester and Brandon Marshall, we can’t imagine just how epic the block parties are in Fort Lauderdale’s posh Southwest Ranches neighborhood. Now that’s one backyard barbeque we would love to attend!
