“Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.” The daughter of actress Blythe Danner and film producer and director Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth Paltrow was destined for fame as she made her acting debut in her father’s 1989 film High before catching the eye of Steven Spielberg who cast her as the young Wendy Darling in Hook in 1991. Paving her own path to stardom in the years following, Paltrow finally earned critical acclaim for her work in Seven and Emma before she wowed the world with her performance in Shakespeare in Love in 1998. Taking home an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and two Screen Actors Guild Awards for her performance, Paltrow was finally a star.
Having spent the last two decades working on blockbusters like The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Royal Tenenbaums and Proof, Paltrow is perhaps best known for her most recent role as Pepper Pots in Marvel’s Iron Man franchise. Along the way, she’s also proven her talents in primetime television on the Fox hit series Glee while snagging nearly 50 award nominations and 22 wins including a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
As nice as worldwide recognition and critical acclaim are, you’re not really an A-list celebrity in Tinsel Town until you’re taking home a huge Hollywood paycheck. Don’t believe us? Paltrow has spent the last 27 years putting in long hours on the set while also working as a spokeswoman for Estee Lauder and Coach in addition to launching her own lifestyle company and publishing two cookbooks. As a result, she’s definitely earning top dollar and has amassed a net worth of $65 million with her 2015 paycheck earning her $10 million.
Obviously with plenty of money to spend on her lavish lifestyle, the Shallow Hal actress has spent a good portion of her wealth on at least four luxury properties dotted across the United States and northern London. And, while her stateside properties are exquisite (as we’ll see later), her “modest” mansion across the pond has certainly turned heads as the estate was once three separate properties that Paltrow had connected to create one massive home that now boasts a whopping 33 rooms.
With a history of stalking incidents, Paltrow did everything possible to ensure her privacy and safety at her London abode and, much to the dismay of her neighbors, had a 10-foot steel fence installed to block off the entire rear of the property. Going one step farther, local tabloids have even reported that Paltrow purchased one of three neighboring estates that will be turned into permanent security and staff quarters, which has left many to wonder if the 44-year-old actress and mother of two has finally gone off the deep end!
Traveling back to the United States to take a look at Paltrow’s main residence brings us to her home in Amagansett, New York, which she purchased for $5.4 million in 2006 with her then-husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin. Stretching over 7,000 square feet with five bedrooms and a master suite with a walk-in closet, the home is Paltrow’s absolute favorite getaway as the entire family took part in designing the interior. For example, Paltrow’s daughter, Apple, chose the fabrics for her canopy bed as well as the wallpaper to give the room a cozy feel with pink, purple and cream hues.
Beyond Paltrow’s family house in the Hamptons, the actress also owns two more adventurous properties including her Manhattan apartment on Laight Street. Setting the Glee star back $5.1 million and offering over 4,000 square feet of living space with three bedrooms and three and a half baths, the interior of the loft remains a mystery beyond the state-of-the-art chef’s kitchen featuring large single-pane floor-to-ceiling windows and granite countertops perfect for fueling Paltrow’s incredible love of cooking.
Moving on to Paltrow’s last and most expensive estate brings us to Los Angeles, California where the Emma star has a beautiful mansion in her hometown that sits on over an acre of land. Reportedly setting her back $10.45 million in 2011, the home’s jaw-dropping price tag reflects its long list of amenities including a home theater and private screening room, a private gym, wine cellar, office, library and plenty of living space. The property also boasts a separate guest house, plenty of room for outdoor entertaining and gorgeous views of the city!
While Paltrow obviously lives in luxury, her tastes beyond her homes are a bit more modest especially when it comes to her cars. Preferring to drive a matte black BMW X5 and a Toyota Prius hybrid, the least of Paltrow’s concern is how she gets from Point A to Point B. After all, when you’re making $10 million a year in Hollywood, you can afford a chauffeur to drive you around!
