“I thought it was my job to give all the boys their first kiss.” Hardly needing any introduction in Hollywood, Jessica Alba has spent the last two decades as an award-winning actress, model and businesswoman. However, long before she found success and fame as an international sex symbol and silver screen star, she was your typical girl next door growing up in Claremont, California in what she describes as a “traditional, Catholic, Latin American family.”
Between her family frequently relocating for her father’s Air Force career and her numerous bouts of pneumonia that kept her hospitalized for long stints at a time, Alba had trouble making friends at school but found comfort and confidence in acting. Convincing her mother to enroll her in a Beverly Hills acting competition at 11 years old, Alba surprised her family and won the grand prize—acting lessons. Signing on with an agent months later, Alba made her film debut in Camp Nowhere in 1994 before she was cast in Nickelodeon’s The Secret World of Alex Mack.
With her career blossoming, Alba went on to star in several films and television series before catching a major break when writer and director James Cameron cast her as Max Guevara in the sci-fi television series Dark Angel. Taking home a Teen Choice Award and a Saturn Award for her performance, the young actress went on to earn an MTV Movie Award for “Sexiest Performance” for her jaw-dropping role in the 2005 flick Sin City. Since then, she’s worked on over 50 projects including Fantastic Four and Good Luck Chuck with her most recent silver screen appearances coming in 2016 hits like The Veil and Mechanic: Resurrection.
Outside of her incredible success in film, Alba has also cashed in on her looks as a model, which has only added to her already immense popularity and astonishing $340 million net worth. Over the years, the superstar has been featured on the covers of Playboy, People and Maxim in addition to taking the top spot on countless lists praising her as the sexiest and most beautiful woman in the world. Leaving no argument for her “babe status,” the 35-year-old admits to using her sexuality to her advantage but maintains that there is a strict no nudity clause in her contract. With extreme anxiety over the thought of stripping down on the set, Alba’s modesty certainly hasn’t kept her from finding work in Hollywood.
While acting and modeling have added to her impressive millionaire status, the bulk of Alba’s net worth is actually attributed to the success of her company—The Honest Company, which sells non-toxic household products. Despite still being in its infancy, the company is doing incredibly well and, as of 2015, was valued at $1.7 billion. With Alba owning around 20% of the company, it’s easy to see why she isn’t hurting for cash.
As you can imagine, there isn’t much that’s out of reach for Alba after earning $190 million last year, but that doesn’t mean she’s quick to spend her hard-earned paycheck. Living a fairly frugal life, Alba and her husband, Cash Warren, own a modest home in Beverly Hills, California that stretches over 3,035 square feet with a handful of luxurious amenities. Come on, you didn’t think the Fantastic Four star would live in a studio apartment, now did you?
Although Alba does an outstanding job of maintaining her privacy when it comes to her personal life and her home, we do know that she isn’t missing out on luxury at home with an indoor swimming pool, a home theater and a large terrace perfect for enjoying the Beverly Hills scenery. Opting to splurge on designer clothes and accessories to fill her walk-in closet, Alba’s garage is definitely lacking with a modest GMC Yukon Gold Hybrid and a Toyota Prius that definitely say “soccer mom” more than “Hollywood star.”
Regardless of what’s in her garage or her closet, Alba doesn’t mind splurging on occasion but would much rather spend her fortune on experiences rather than buying and collecting a house full of “things.” With her incredible sense of adventure of love of traveling, she’s known to hop on a plane at a moment’s notice for a last-minute vacation with Warren and their two daughters, Honor Marie and Haven Garner.
Of course, other than spending money on a little rest and relaxation with her family, Alba definitely steps up and does her part to help those in need. Never forgetting her own struggles as a child, the 35-year-old beauty currently supports over three dozen charities personally with The Honest Company supporting an additional 100 nonprofit initiatives worldwide. And, despite critics arguing her sexuality overshadows her talent as an actress, it’s undeniable that Alba’s heart is in the right place thanks to her work as a spokeswoman for organizations like Child Healthy Day, Declare Yourself and the Step Up Women’s Network. Keep up the great work!
