One of those comedies that seemed to really breakthrough and exceed expectations came out in 2004 in the form of “Mean Girls”. The Tina Fey-led movie is considered a comedy classic at this point, and helped to launch several different careers. Among those was actor Jonathan Bennett, who has enjoyed a long line of success after having his first big role between acting and reality television.

Bennett didn’t come from a large city, instead growing up in the small town of Rossford, Ohio where he was born on June 10, 1981. Bennett did some acting in school while growing up, developing an interest in the profession. After he graduated from high school, Bennett briefly attended college to train as an actor, but ended up dropping out so that he could move east to New York City where more acting opportunities could present themselves.

Bennett got his start on screen by appearing on an episode of the show “Dad” in 1997. He then followed it up the next year with a guest spot in “The Bill” before finding his footing in the early 2000s. For nearly a year, Bennett had a role on the soap opera “All My Children”, while also appearing in shows such as “Law & Order”, “Boston Public” and “Veronica Mars”.

It was also around this time that Bennett made his film debut, starring in the 2003 film “Season of Youth”. That next year, Bennett had his most notable role to date playing opposite of Lindsay Lohan in “Mean Girls”. Bennett became a hot name for the rest of the 2000s, appearing in films like “Cheaper by the Dozen 2”, “Bachelor Party Vegas” and “Van Wilder: Freshman Year”.

To land that “Mean Girls” role, Bennett had to go through quite the audition process. He had to test for producers four times to land the role. “It’s kind of like ‘The Price is Right’ when you’re getting cast for a film like this,” he said. “‘Come on down!’ You go down and you do it and you have the first audition in which you have to impress the casting director.” He had to impress more producers which included “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels.

Heading into the early 2010s, Bennett had many roles in TV films while continuing to make guest appearances on several different shows. Some of his more notable films from this time that were released in theaters included “Memorial Day” and “The Secret Village”. Needless to say, he wasn’t struggling to find work, with several movies coming out each year in that era of his career.

Though some people might not realize it, Bennett has actually been very busy in the past few years. He hasn’t been starring in major blockbusters, but has consistently been getting work. Some of his more notable recent films include “Submerged” and “The Haunting of Sharon Tate”. There are also a lot of upcoming film projects for Bennett, including “Blue Call”, “The Dawn” and “The Never List”. Television has also kept Bennett’s schedule rather busy, as he’s been a contestant on shows such as “Dancing with the Stars” and hosted the reality series “Cake Wars”. Most recently, Bennett has been in TV movies that include “The Last Sharknado” and “Christmas Made to Order”.

It does always seem to come back to that famous role in “Mean Girls” for Bennett, though. He still says that he spends time with some of the cast members that he starred alongside, and that he consistently goes back and watches the film. As for his favorite scene, “I really like when we turned into animals in the dream sequence. That was fun.”

As for what it was like to become a teen icon thanks to his role, Bennett said that “It’s the weirdest thing to be Aaron Samuels because not a day goes by that someone doesn’t come up to you and say something. I actually thought about it the other day. It would be weird to leave the house and have someone not say something. It’s just part of my life, and I’m honored to be part of people’s lives. Because ‘Mean Girls’ isn’t just a movie people like, it’s part of their lives. They speak it, they use it when they go through break-ups, so I’m proud to be a part of it. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

When it comes to the rest of his career, Bennett has a pretty good outlook on things. “I host six shows on the Food Network, was on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and I’m just hosting, acting and loving it.” If he could change anything about his most famous character, though, he said “I’d give him a better haircut. And by the way, I started the Justin Bieber bob. Justin Bieber did not do it first - I did.”
