“Now I ain’t saying she a gold digger…” Whether you love him or hate him, it’s undeniable that Kanye West is one of the most talked about figures in Hollywood today especially since tying the knot with reality television star Kim Kardashian in 2014. From his controversial stunts and political statements to interrupting Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards in 2009, West seems to love stealing the show as he and his posse of Kardashians trend on social media by starting Twitter feuds, wiretapping fellow celebrities and engrossing the American public with their wild and unobtainable façade of perfection. That about sums it up, doesn’t it?

Undeniably a gifted songwriter and performer, West made his debut in 2004 with The College Dropout and has continued to find success with seven albums over the years featuring popular hits like “Fade,” “Gold Digger” and “Famous.” Along the way, he’s built an astonishing $145 million net worth and isn’t shy about using the media to aid his good fortune and fame. But, while his public antics continue to steal the limelight, we couldn’t help but wonder what his private life with Kardashian and their two children looks like at their gorgeous mansions in Bel-Air and Hidden Hills, California.

The 21-time Grammy Award-winner and his stunning wife purchased their Bel-Air home in 2013 for $11 million prior to tying the knot at Fort di Belvedere in Florence, Italy the following year. With their daughter Nori born in June 2013, the couple immediately set out to renovate the 9,000 square foot property and its eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Starting inside, the couple replaced all the existing windows with larger glass panes and then gutted every room of the house in order to start completely from scratch. They also removed the balconies and reconfigured the roofline to replace the Mediterranean design with a more contemporary look. Once the major construction was complete, they repainted the interior in their signature all-white color palette. Outside, the couple filled in the pool and rebuilt a larger pool to their standards. They also enclosed the patio with floor-to-ceiling windows, added a pool house and painted the once yellow home in periwinkle.

As far as amenities go, the Bel-Air home includes a state-of-the-art gym as well as a steam shower and sauna in the master bathroom. The remodeled kitchen features three islands that are perfect for the large Kardashian clan to join the Wests for the occasional family gathering filled with entertainment. And, speaking of entertainment, there’s plenty to do with a private movie theater, a wet bar, game room and a library.

Despite their efforts and the $2 million West and Kardashian put into renovating their Bel-Air mansion, the power couple wasn’t entirely satisfied with the home especially after learning they were expecting a second child. Long before the renovations were complete in Bel-Air, they reasoned that they needed more privacy to raise their children so they purchased another estate located in Hidden Hills for $20 million from Lisa-Marie Presley in 2014. Coincidentally, the home is just down the street from Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner’s lavish estate.

With their new home nestled on 3.5 acres and offering 16,000 square feet with eight bedrooms, eight full baths, multiple fireplaces, pools and a vineyard, the couple listed their Bel-Air home for $20 million knowing they had finally found their dream home. In true West fashion, however, the couple still wanted to make a few improvements, which included purchasing Presley’s house next door for $3 million with the intent to eventually tear it down to offer them even more privacy and room to grow.

Having spent the last few years living with Jenner while they renovated their Bel-Air and Hidden Hills homes, the stress of construction, pregnancy and seeing Jenner ultimately move out of her home and into a nearby condo was enough to convince the Wests to move back to Bel-Air and wait on the completion of their Hidden Hills mansion. During an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kim had finally had enough when she was faced with an issue over lighting and told contractors, “I can’t live like this. I can’t live in my mom’s house anymore.”

With renovations constantly delayed thanks to the addition of a lagoon, rehabbing the vineyard and extending the master suite, insiders told US Weekly that the couple can’t stop renovating. “Kanye won’t move in until it is perfect. He says he wants to make it into their Neverland.” If that’s the case, it might be a few more years before West, Kardashian and their two kids finally move into their dream home and start living a normal life at home. Then again, what’s normal when you’re a rap superstar like Kanye and a media sensation like Kim?
