It took some time for Formula One racing to catch on around the world, but its global expansion has made it a multi-billion dollar empire on the back of expanded television coverage and massive advertising money. One of the people that helped to grow Formula One into the global business that it is today is Bernie Ecclestone, who worked his way up the ladder into an executive, being credited for making Formula One worth what it is today. As a result, Ecclestone is extremely wealthy, and has three daughters who look to inherit is vast fortune, including 30 year old daughter Petra Ecclestone.

Bernie Ecclestone had become an executive with Formula One back in the 1970s, and at the time was in a relationship with a woman named Tuana Tan. However, that relationship came to an end when he met model Slavica Radic, 28 years his junior. Ecclestone’s relationship with tan officially came to an end when it was revealed that Slavica was pregnant, expecting their first child Tamara in 1984. The next year, Bernie and Slavica officially married in a star-studded event in the sports world.

Three years after their marriage, Petra Ecclestone was born on December 19, 1988 in London, Westminster, England. While some children that would be born into a multi-billion dollar family might be spoiled and want to coast on the family’s earnings, Ecclestone wanted to get to work right away. From a very young age, Ecclestone said that she wanted to be a fashion designer, and develop her own path.

“It’s always been my passion,” she said. “When I was younger I was always drawing sketches. I loved fashion. I was quite experimental with clothes. I loved making my own clothes and things.” During her teenage years, though, Ecclestone would stop making clothes for herself, and focused on making men’s clothing. She said that the women’s clothing market had become too “saturated” with designers, and got in touch with her father’s suit designer Edward Sexton to make her own line of men’s clothing at just 19 years old.

When her fashion career began to take off, Ecclestone became married to a businessman named James Stunt. The two officially married in August 2011, and in early 2013 had their only daughter, naming her Lavinia. Another two years later, and Ecclestone and Stunt had twin boys named James and Andrew. The marriage wouldn’t last much longer than that, however, as the couple called it quits in 2017. With that, Petra went back to using the Ecclestone name.

Following the divorce, Ecclestone spoke to the public, saying that “It’s been a bad year, but it’s getting better.” She added that “Once you have kids there’s no option but to be strong. You can’t feel sorry for yourself, you just have to do what’s right for them...my life didn’t pan out the way I expected it to. I thought I wasn’t the type who believed in divorce...But things happen for a reason, and whatever that reason is, I’ve now got my three kids.”

Ecclestone’s family certainly isn’t struggling for money, as it’s estimated that she and sister Tamara will inherit the family fortune from their 88 year old father, Bernie. It’s estimated that the fortune is $3.2 billion, which makes both Ecclestone girls billionaires, even if not officially. Even though she hasn’t fully seen the money, Petra is already adding assets to her net worth, having purchased the largest home in Los Angeles County, spending $85 million on the home that’s more than 56,000 square feet. That home was actually owned by Aaron Spelling, the legendary television producer, and has over two dozen bathrooms and 14 bedrooms. You don’t drop that kind of money unless you have billions coming your way.

According to Ecclestone, money isn’t a big deal despite the fact that she has a lot of it. “Money can’t buy happiness, it buys things,” she said. “It doesn’t matter how wealthy you might be, it doesn’t stop you getting sick. Money can come and go, but the health of your children is the most important thing in life. We’re all born the same way, we die the same way, whether rich or not.” Unlike sister Tamara, don’t expect Petra to be out and about doing a lot of interviews and appearing on television shows. Instead, she lives a more reserved life and you’d be lucky to get a bi-annual interview from the billionaire heiress.

As for what the future holds for Ecclestone, well, she’s not quite sure. In late 2018, Ecclestone entered her 30s and only plans on taking care of her children for now. “Maybe in my 30s I can have my semi-life back,” she said. “Maybe I’ll have a midlife crisis and start dancing on tables.” With the fortune that she has, it’s unlikely to come to that, though we’re pretty sure she was just joking around.
