“You think I’m gorgeous…You want to kiss me…You want to hug me…” Widely praised as America’s sweetheart and Hollywood’s girl next door, Sandra Bullock is one of the most established actresses in the industry and has piles of cash—to the tune of $200 million—to prove it! However, long before she ever caught her first major break in Tinsel Town, Bullock had dreams of following in her mother’s footsteps to become an opera star. So, how did she go from an aria-loving child to an award-winning actress on the silver screen?

Growing up in Nuremberg, Germany where her father worked in the United States Army and her mother toured on the European opera circuit, Bullock frequently accompanied her mother on tour while studying ballet and vocal arts. Eventually landing small parts in her mother’s productions, Bullock’s love of performing blossomed and inspired her to study drama and fine arts at East Carolina University in North Carolina. Eventually moving to Manhattan to give theater a try, the young Bullock worked as a cocktail waitress and bartender while taking acting lessons with Sanford Meisner and auditioning for every role imaginable.

Starring in a few student films before landing a part in an Off-Broadway production under director Alan J. Levi, Bullock impressed kick-started her career. Starring in Levi’s Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman in 1989, Bullock snagged more and more prominent roles in television series like Working Girl and films like The Thing Called Love before catching her first major break in the sci-fi blockbuster Demolition Man in 1993.

Quickly becoming a star, Bullock followed up the hit with Speed and, by the turn of the century, was a Hollywood A-lister known for a string of award-winning hits including While You Were Sleeping, Speed 2: Cruise Control and Hope Floats. Continuing her streak of good fortune in the new millennium with films like Miss Congeniality and Two Weeks Notice, Bullock has wowed audiences in over 50 films while extending her reach behind the scenes as a producer. Along the way, she’s earned hundreds of nominations and awards including three Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, one Academy Award and one Golden Globe.

Along with her international fame and recognition, the Virginia native has also broken dozens of records when it comes to her earnings. In 2014, she took home over $50 million thanks to her impressive contract for Gravity, which earned widespread critical acclaim, won seven Academy Awards and brought in over $716 million at the global box office. The following year, Bullock did it again as she enjoyed her greatest commercial success in the animated comedy film Millions, which earned over $1 billion at the box office just as she was named “Most Beautiful Woman” by People magazine. How’s that for a record-breaking year?

Obviously working exceptionally hard since making her acting debut nearly three decades ago, The Blind Side star has spent a good portion of her $200 million net worth on creating a nice home (or homes) for herself and her two children. Among Bullock’s most notable properties are her homes in Austin, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana, both of which are absolutely stunning.

Bullock’s home in Austin sits on nearly two meticulously maintained acres of land, 1.75 acres to be exact, overlooking the beautiful Barton Creek. Offering plenty of room for her two young ones to run around and have fun, the mansion itself stretches over 5,600 square feet and offers a long list of stunning amenities including a hot tub, an in-ground pool, a regulation tennis court and a jaw-dropping 360-degree view of the gorgeous Texas landscape.

Moving further south into the heart of Cajun country, Bullock’s second home is extremely different from her Texas estate but is still just as luxurious. Built in 1860 and listed at $2.25 million, Bullock’s New Orleans abode offers 6,600 square feet of living space with five bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms, a ballroom and an entire floor dedicated as a playroom for her son, Louis, and her daughter, Laila. And, when it comes to chauffeuring her kids to and from playdates, Bullock certainly does that in modest style with three vehicles to choose from—a Mercedes-Benz GL550, a Toyota Prius and an Audi A6.

Aside from her gorgeous homes in the Lone Star State and the Big Easy, several sources close to the actress claim that Bullock is far from a big spender and prefers spending her fortune on helping others. Of course, these claims aren’t hard to believe after Bullock took home the Favorite Humanitarian Award at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards, which honored her decades of work with charities like the Red Cross, Partners in Health, Tuesday’s Children and dozens of others. It looks like Hollywood’s favorite leading lady truly is beautiful on the inside and out!
